How would Vincent see our world?

I have been reading the latest Vincent Van Gogh biography, and his letters. I am captured by his perception and have been trying to see nature as he would. I started by trying to paint a cypress landscape on canvas. Then I moved to the computer thinking that if I utilized the the Van Gogh brush in Painter 8, I might get a better handle on how to do it. Taking the painting I created in painter (see description) I pulled it into Photoshop and did some tweaking, I decided to turn it into an abstract and try to illustrate the planet as Vincent would see it from heaven. I think I might just have captured it, what do you think?

Update Ebay does NOTHING about Bootleggers

Update on Bootleg copies of my art on EBAY

As of the time of this writing 10:30 CST, Nov 19,2011. Mr. Stellar393 continues to sell my art on Ebay. Ebay has done nothing, they said it was under investigation and they did plan on Sanctioning him. The owner of the original( Original was sold on Jan 3, 2008 in an ebay auction the auction ID number and details were supplied to Ebay personally) has contacted both the seller and Ebay along with 23 other (those that I know of), his reaction was to list 4 more "ORIGINALS" and raise the price at that! Here is a sampling of the bootlegger replies:

for last 3 days I had 5 eBay members stating what they own original of this particular painting, so I do not know how to comment this facts, - I do not know who is painter - I am purchasing my art from private collectors and reselling them..

they were mass bought at a flea market and he's a reseller & has a right to sell them.

"I never stated it is MY artwork - I'm reseller. I purchased it on flea market and simply re-selling it. You have no proof what it is not an original from somebody else collection who sold it to me to do reports..

Ebay's response...They issued violations and warnings to several of the people who wrote to them on my behalf saying they personally knew the artist and he was selling bootleg merchandise. They no longer return my calls or emails.

I am so very disappointed that Ebay, whom I have had a sellers account for over 10 yrs would put it's own profit over legal rights.

PLEASE PLEASE I need your help.I have been dealing this past week with a bootleg of 2 of my pieces of art for sale on EBAY. I have contacted the powers that be, and filled out the necessary forms. Problem is the bootlegger is a TOP RATED seller (mostly solar equipment) on EBAY and I am not. That said this is what I would appreciate your help on. Every Auction has a question for the seller at the very bottom of the listing. I would like you to in your own words tell him you know the artist Alma Lee and his listing is not part of her official site or auctions. Ask him to please respect copyrights, as the sole providence of the artist. This may seem like a small problem but it really is not. I lost control of all the art work I did pre 2006 to China. It went "national" meaning they consider it property of China. They produce my same art on various products at will and I don't see a cent. I have reason to believe this is what is going on now with several of my pieces. I want to put an end to it . I will tell you the girl and the cat (love me Love my Cat)original was sold it was a 9x12" in color pencils. I still retain the original of Christ and the Thief. The bootlegged copies are very good and even include the "hidden" marks I put in every piece. Here are the links and I hope you will help

I Read the other day Thomas Kincade has filed for bankruptcy. Less than a decade ago he was the top of the financial heap. Guaranteed I believe he was over managed by his agent, but I believe that the big picture, and the catalyst to his financial demise, lies in the trend of current culture to take art for granted. We don't invest in art or artists. Much of the population sees art as merely decoration for our homes and it's accessories. And we take it for granted. We have devalued it's role and romanticized it practitioners. We have come to embrace the role of starving artists, and the result is. They are leaving in droves. They gave up when they realized they could make more money, building picture frames and mat boards than creating the art they contain. If you don't think we will miss them let me ask you this...when was the last time you bought blank paper towels, napkins, t shirt. Not the same thing you say, and I would agree, the way design enriches your home and personal products... true art does enriches your life and soul.. It is important, support a LIVING artist this season. It will change your life and theirs.

This is Nina Ten, the first of several Doll Leeâ„¢ steam punk dolls by Alma Lee. She is a re-purposed doll. Her face was damaged from a freak accident involving a tricycle and a careless toddler. After hours of cosmetic surgery and restoration she is ready to embark on a life of a more loving planet. I designed and sewed a new "steam punk" dress for her hand and custom made. Her "accessories" include a car hose clamp necklace, vintage metal bead earrings. Copper tubing hair extensions, and gears work as her knee replacement. Being rebellious she did have her nose pierced without prior permission, but we like it (don't tell her!)

The Blue Hobnail Series

For year upon year there sat a set of Blue Hobnail China in my Mother's cupboard. She despised it, thought it to old fashioned I think, I on the other hand fell in love at first sight. Those little hobnail refract the light in every shade of blue imaginable. And like most Mother/Daughter relationships she was wrong! lol I think it is quite modern looking and the addition of sun-ripened tomatoes fresh from the garden make it pop. The pears offer a somewhat softer focus and settle in the sea of glass nicely. Here is to good taste and warm memories.

I believe that it was Winston Churchill who referred to his depression as a "Black Dog" That maybe true, but as I have recently discovered, rebellion and angst comes as a "Black Cat" My cat T'gre to be exact. The other day after being told no he flew into a snit, pounced on me, knocked over a beautiful glass bowl my Mother gave me and proceeds to relieve himself all over my clean work clothes. I stood there in shock and he, well lets just say is unrepentant. We got through it, but I did catch myself stuttering the next time a no was in order!

Retro Cuff Steampunk Bracelet

This piece of Jewelry was inspired by my cat! One day he went charging through the house like his tail was on fire, when I told him to knock it off, he did and landed right in the middle of my bead organizer. Since approaching jewelry design in any organized fashion seemed a remote possibility, I decided that a little piece work was in order.

This is a large woman's bracelet with recycled and glass beads and gears all hand stitched on a wide band of elastic.

Frida: a Child the Wistful, Longing Years (Re-purposed doll)

This is a re-purposed doll I purchased at Goodwill. I bought it because it had no plastic eyes, making it much easier to paint in the figures eyes. I decided to set her gaze off to the side, because I get the feeling she was always scanning the horizon in search a new hope, a new love. I also believed that she never saw betrayal coming.

Her dress is a re-purposed vintage hankie with a recycled ribbon. The bodice of her dress is a doll necklace from the first doll I ever had.

I haven't been on here in a while. I have been taking care of some personal stuff. They have found a large cyst within my spine and have been trying to figure out what we should do with it. Anyhow I am still drawing, painting and sculpting (less hours than I used to)but still going! I thank God for that so I thought I would share a bit of what I am doing. Three Graces is an old piece I did 25 years ago, I recently pulled it out and decided it needed to be re worked. I wish I had taken a before pic but as is par for the course I just dug right in!

My Steampunk/Cyberpunk series "Edge of Dysphoria" is alive and well, heck I am starting to identify with the women built with artificial parts! The Shepard Princess is the series latest edition.

Fractal in Analog

I realize that I will be dating myself, but do you remember the first time you saw a spin point picture, made a spiral-gram from a kit? What about string art. If you were like me you were in awe of the image. It was the most modern, and highest art form you had ever seen. Pretty soon you were hooked and so it goes.

Recently I ran into my old spiral-graph kit while cleaning out a closet. I have not been able to part with it. I realize now that it was very simplistic, but it was a beginning and that is what I hold on too. I wonder 30 years from now if that is how our children will look at fractals?

Analog Fractal is an attempt to capture that feeling I had when I saw a fractal for the first time. The art grows so quickly, and I needed to contain it in a low tech, (analog) way right here, right now. What do you think?

Steam Punk Suzanne and the Anti-Aging Device

I think that the hardest thing for me to do with this piece was title it. I wanted to call it Post Menopause Art or something along those lines. All the while I was working on it I kept think gosh she looks like Suzanne Sommers. When I was preparing it for print I saw for the first time the word Age on her thigh. (it had been part of an antique cigar tin I had called PORTAGE) That sealed the deal for me. On a more serious note, it is yet another piece of the "Visual Diary of the journey to the Edge of Dsyphoria" It is another likely outcome of a world left with no more than Man as God. We will tweak, and twist and improve by any means possible our aging carcasses. Because we are all about appearances and youth. I would love to learn to see us as God sees us...beauty in the hoary heads and wrinkled faces.

The Idea of a Victorian time manager totally intrigues me. First you have to ask yourself did they really need one? There were no life coaches, car pools, or even "quality time" back then. They had instead things like dinner time, church time and bedtime. The second question that comes to mind is were their priorities all that wrong? At any rate, this would be the answer or the truth, You can not stretch time, hold back time, thrust time forth. The only variable in this experiment is you. How far can you stretch, go and bend? Frankly I would like to sit down over dinner and think about it.

This is one of my first Steampunk pieces. While doing a sketch for a little steampunk sculpture, I realized the synergy between Cubism and Steampunk. One really doesn't work without the other. I like to think that it is a type of Steampunk meets Picasso.

So much of what we do, we have done before. Which is not a problem if it works. However so many of the things we hold dear in this life, seem ritualized, we patch and mend, and still see it's beauty, it becomes a icon. This image lead me to believe that it is time to stop patching the torn and battered, and weave something new, something that will hold water, or at least myself. You only get one life, the fabric it is woven out of, is entirely up to me.

Who Knew? I was working the cash register at my Mom's estates sale and sitting with a friend I said, Really who wants those old records anyway. To which she replied, I don't know, but I do remember making bowls out of them. What I had never heard of that. Well you just now I had to try! Being careful not to damage the color pencil on the outside I think it turned out fantastic!

In January of this past year, I announced that this years theme would be relationship, both in my art and in my personal life. And what a year it was. My Mom died in February, it was a rough blow. In March we started preparing her home for sale. It was a huge undertaking, a 9 month journey, comprised not only with the discovery of Mom's relationship with her possession (it was a passionate affair for her) but it tried and questioned every relationship I had. Some relationships thrived, some faltered, some were lost, and some could go either way. My art, well it went all over the board and back again. It too appears to be in a state of flux. But as the close of this year is upon us I will have to leave my art theme, with what I learned, and my final piece in the year of relationships.,Love keeps no Records. It has been ages since I tried a nude. I was looking through Lempicka's work and trying to get a sense of her cubism planes in both her figure distortion and fabric draping. I got the announcement late last night. My paintings "Dog Pile" and "Party Animals" won at the 2010 annual American Art Award show.
Dog Pile took 1st Place in the Cubism Category and Party Animals came in 2nd in the Pen, Ink, and Pencil category. The annual contest is judged by judges from 25 of some of the countries top galleries. It is a great show, take some time and see the extraordinary art coming from this nations artists. I seem hopelessly hooked on duct tape these days. I try to walk away, but the next thing I know is I am back at it. Here is my latest...Coral bracelet with duct tape beads. Each duct bead is interwoven with the wire to secure it's placement.

I ran across a picture of the domed ceiling of a mosque in Istanbul. It is my understanding the fundamental difference between the decor of mosque and a church is where as Churches are primarily adorned in on images, or abstract representation of the Lord, Mosques focus in on the patterns of God, Islamic life ect. This lends them some of the most beautiful and compelling art in all the world.

The more I looked at the photograph the more I thought about the the biblical descriptions of the eyes being the window of the soul. This is the result of my musing.

There is not a woman alive who doesn't understand what wearing our favorite, drop dead, femme fatale shoes does for our psyche. But I am instantly reminded of the price we pay for those shoes also. Hug Unfurled (Entry in EBSQ Candy show)

People always say that it all starts with a kiss. And heaven knows I have had my share of Hershey kisses. But when you think about it usually takes a hug first to get things going, A hug must be savored and relished, allowed to cast it's spell. I wanted to convey this along with the mellowness, warmth and richness of the hug , Eye candy if you will pardon the pun. I decided to depict the wrapper in red starting to unfurl, just to illustrate the spark of excited passion we all feel upon opening the wrapper. Sit back, and enjoy. you know the Kiss is coming...

Note: The colored pencil is applied layer upon layer to build up deep, vibrant color saturation an effect similar to the renaissance glazing techniques used by the old masters. M&Ms Breaking Tension (EBSQ Candy Show Entry)

M&Ms is the greatest tension breaker I know! One day I and my dog were at the Animal clinic, for the latest of many trips that month. After the appointment I was waiting at the desk to pick up the prescribed medication for Dix (my dog). While I was there the vet walked out and grabbed a handful of dark chocolate m&ms from one of the clerks.

He said "Man I love these dark chocolate M&Ms"

I said "dark chocolate? Now that's medication I need!. He told the clerk to go and get him one of those big med bottles, and he poured in a bunch of the M&Ms and scribbled across the label my name and PRN and handed it to me.

"What's this?" I asked,

Your prescription TAKE AS NEEDED and APPLY LIBERALLY!"

Today that is still the best medical advice I have ever received.

M&Ms Breaking Tension is done on MDF 1/2" panel, in color pencils and markers. Color pencils are applied layer upon layer until full color saturation is achieved. It is then spraayed with fiixative and a UV Resistant spray to preserve color vibrancy.

Grey was the challenge on EBSQ. Grey I thought surely they jest, Grey? Color on hiatus, say it isn't true........
Grey now there is a challenge for me. I am so used to a vivid color palette. Then I remembered the wool suit patterns my mom used to wear, and grey flannel slacks. Remembering those things I began to wonder how would one of the abstraction artists of the era pull together the collect of those swatches? The project only seems possible using every possible shade, value and tint of grey. I went out and got my first set of tinted graphite pencils (all I had been waiting for was an excuse!) and let em rip.

I have a right to my own style

I am so very disheartened. As an artist I have like so many others invested years into creating my own style. In 2006 I finally hit on something that was truly unique. I was used to being ripped off in the world of licensing, but even they had the decency to "rearrange" my originals. Now I find these auctions on ebay, virtually a carbon copy (see below) well she did forget the leg on one of them. Here is my quandry: she does beautiful and unique work in her own style, I don't even know why she would want to out and out copy mine. You know, the general masses these days don't think much of copyright infringement as they run copies off there inkjets, and bootleg CDs. But back in the days of the master painters they had a word for it. It was called forgery. Come to think of it they had a punishment too, it was called prison. I apologize for not posting the offending pictures, however Ebay will not let you copy someone elses auction without thier permission. Now they care!!!

When a Hippie dreams
the daisies dance
upon delightful breeze
casting a peaceful trance
so it is as it seems
peace comes to enhance
only when a hippie dreams...

I was driving home from one dance and just as entered the exit ramp, this image passed through my mind. I had such a feeling not so much of peace, but promise. Promise that would we had hoped, and dreamed of, would not always be met by rejection. but one day, God willing it would come to pass.

This piece is done andmarkers, and Color pencils on a MDF panel. Color pencils is laid on in many layers, to achieve full color and surface saturation. The result is a satiny sheen rivaling that of oil or acrylic.

The Cubic Pear

I have always been fascinated with the stark contrast of a harlequin pattern, place against bright peices of fruit. Not only is the pear a colorful, vibrant piece of fruit, it is also one of my favorites! I like the fresh feel of the simple shapes impacted by the cubic light beams. This is done with color pencil and markers, layer upon layer, fully saturating the surface of MDF (medium density fiberboard) panel. This is a square piece designed to be hung at a 45 degree angle.
