New Abstracts

I have been busy with some new abstracts.  I ran into a free trial of Flaming Pear™CS6 filters Flexify and Flood and just my luck I am in Love with them!  Here are some sample of the results of my trial: All of them mixed media digital assemblage

Analog to Digital, 2 new drawings

I got the idea that there just might be a second life to my drawings. I started with my abstraction color pencil drawing of the San Antonio Central Library. I then pulled the finished "analog" drawing into Photoshop and applied a number of filters and layer blends I then drew in some pasta, and added a fork and Voila we have, Anticipation, the pasta bowl. If you look real close you will see parts of the original drawing in there. It was a lot of fun, and though I don't think that it is going to work with all "analog" drawing, I do think you will be seeing more of it from me.

How would Vincent see our world?

I have been reading the latest Vincent Van Gogh biography, and his letters. I am captured by his perception and have been trying to see nature as he would. I started by trying to paint a cypress landscape on canvas. Then I moved to the computer thinking that if I utilized the the Van Gogh brush in Painter 8, I might get a better handle on how to do it. Taking the painting I created in painter (see description) I pulled it into Photoshop and did some tweaking, I decided to turn it into an abstract and try to illustrate the planet as Vincent would see it from heaven. I think I might just have captured it, what do you think?

Starting Image and Close ups

Fractal in Analog

I realize that I will be dating myself, but do you remember the first time you saw a spin point picture, made a spiral-gram from a kit? What about string art. If you were like me you were in awe of the image. It was the most modern, and highest art form you had ever seen. Pretty soon you were hooked and so it goes.

Recently I ran into my old spiral-graph kit while cleaning out a closet. I have not been able to part with it. I realize now that it was very simplistic, but it was a beginning and that is what I hold on too. I wonder 30 years from now if that is how our children will look at fractals?

Analog Fractal is an attempt to capture that feeling I had when I saw a fractal for the first time. The art grows so quickly, and I needed to contain it in a low tech, (analog) way right here, right now. What do you think?

Contemplation by Alma Lee

Contemplation runs a ruined path
through my mind, unsettled to wrath

Life is hard, worries are many. I dearly wanted to illustrate what it would be like to just let those concerns fall from my head into my heart, listen, and know that I have the answer.

Nebulous Dream in Blue and Green

This is one of my latest fractals It is actually a combination of several fractals but I really like the result.

Fractal Froggie

Here I was just being a space cadet, my natural state really. Dreaming amongst the planets. Space is such a solitary place, remote and disconnected. Then suddenly there appeared Froggie Fractual and I met my first interplanetary friend. Happily we seek our next adventure. It is but one small step for mankind, one giant leap for fractal!

Kandinsky Study day 4

I am reminded of the commercial stay within the lines as I am working at this. I think my reoccurring squiggle line, is due to the fact that I have not drawn in the horizontal lines yet. I have to get to that part soon or else....

WIP Kandinski Study #1

I have been studying the work of Wassily Kandinsky. He believed that both color and shapes had a "language" of their own and each would elict a universal emotional response. I don't know if that is true but something about his composition that so ignites my creativity. I decided to give it a try, and share my work in progress in the process.

Featured Artist of the week

This week I wanted to spotlight the art of Lutz Baar. I got caught up in his use of color, composition and the exquisite breaks in his visual plains. He is a member of the Contemporary Cubist group on Image Kind but does not see his art as cubism. I find myself at a loss to describe his work, but fortunately he has done so beautifully that for me. He describes his work in this way;

"In my paintings I am working in the borderlands where light and illuminated surfaces meet. The motifs are between half figurative and abstract.They form a starting point in my adventure where I try to visualize a primary component of images that is in fact invisible – the light.

I am fond of all of his pieces, but have picked two of his feline paintings, because I feel that the way an artist portrays a cat speaks volumes about who they are and how they view their life in the world. THE CHASE by Alma Lee
It is always the Chase with Spot, the conquest is secondary. But then again they had it coming, first the mouse ventured out for that last forbidden morsel, and of course Tabby just could let the opportunity pass...well then the rest is history as they say. What is not shown, as it was too graphic for the housekeepers it what lies on the flip side of this picture...the mess. Some things are better left unseen!
