I never knew there was a blue poppy, actually when you first hear it it sounds almost like an oxzy moron. I think that we just naturally associate poppie with red. However,once I saw a picture of the Himalayan Blue poppy that association went out the window. Blue accentuates the lines and textures in the poppy. Here after when I hear poppy I will forever think of the blue beauty.
This is my very first palatte knife painting. I find it a little intimidating to work this way bc my comfort level with control is greatly limited but at the same time the experience is so freeing and it requires you to live in the here and now. Nothing more than a thought is required and it is instantly translated on to the canvas. It is so mind clearing and it gives me more room to expand on the next thought, the next vision. I guess you could say that what blue does for a poppy, palatte painting does for me.
I am BACK! I've had some questions as to why I fell off the map was last 3 months. I was having some health issues, and my doctors had a hard time figuring out what was going on. Long story short, my heart had an undiagnosed, congenital defect .. My heart, started to fail, refused to pump enough blood to my extremities. I was taken out of commission literally.While this was going on we were in the process of building my first studio not in my house. It has been affectionately named She Shack Studios. Needless to say it is behind schedule but still in the works. God is good, and he kept me going and now I have since received a pacemaker and almost overnight I was a new woman it has proved to be a life changing experience. So that being said I had a great deal of time to pick a new creative direction, without abandoning my current brands and style.
I had been waiting anxiously to put these out to auction. If you are a Cube–a–Kitty, or K9.5 fan then you are going to love my new felted sculptures of various feline and canine characters. These sculptures are achieved by needle felting into uns-pun wall with a tiny barbed needle. This adheres the wool fibers to gather into tight solid shapes. These are one of a kind originals. Because I design and sculp, as I go there will never be 2 alike. I hope you are excited as I am about this new venture. I have placed several of them on auction on eBay. Human Trafficking is a subject close to my heart. I had never heard of it until a few years ago, then I watched the movie "Human Trafficking" with Donald Sutherland and was struck by how easily even the smart and savvy among us are taken in by these thugs. I knew that I in my younger days would have succumbed also. It is heartbreaking. This are was inspired by that movie it has been years since I have seen it but I will never be able to forget it.

This is Nina Ten, the first of several Doll Leeâ„¢ steam punk dolls by Alma Lee. She is a re-purposed doll. Her face was damaged from a freak accident involving a tricycle and a careless toddler. After hours of cosmetic surgery and restoration she is ready to embark on a life of a more loving planet. I designed and sewed a new "steam punk" dress for her hand and custom made. Her "accessories" include a car hose clamp necklace, vintage metal bead earrings. Copper tubing hair extensions, and gears work as her knee replacement. Being rebellious she did have her nose pierced without prior permission, but we like it (don't tell her!)

This piece of Jewelry was inspired by my cat! One day he went charging through the house like his tail was on fire, when I told him to knock it off, he did and landed right in the middle of my bead organizer. Since approaching jewelry design in any organized fashion seemed a remote possibility, I decided that a little piece work was in order.
This is a large woman's bracelet with recycled and glass beads and gears all hand stitched on a wide band of elastic.

Here I was just being a space cadet, my natural state really. Dreaming amongst the planets. Space is such a solitary place, remote and disconnected. Then suddenly there appeared Froggie Fractual and I met my first interplanetary friend. Happily we seek our next adventure. It is but one small step for mankind, one giant leap for fractal!
This is my first cubic frog. I like all the interconnected circles within both the frog and his habitat. Yellow introduces you to the would be prince, Otis. Leaping out of nowhere and yet appearing as though he had always been there. Such is the nature of frog, and their royalty!

If you should be blessed enough to stumble upon the secret Paisley garden, you will surely give pause to the Paisley Amaryllis. Beautiful and engaging it is startling against the edge of snow...who knew?
This piece is done in color pencil on 140lbs watercolor paper. It is also embossed and the paper lend an extra luxurious texture. Color pencil is laid down in a multifude of layers, allowing for full saturation of intense color.

I have recently become enamored with Encaustic painting. I love it's other worldly look and feel, and it's ability to seemingly "transport" you at will to another dimension. There are many wonderful artists currently exploring this medium. But first what is Encaustic art? Encaustic paint is the mixture of pigment and beeswax, other materials are sometimes used, like linseed oil, Damar varnish, Oil paint and even turpentine. This is not a new practice, as it has a long history dating back to mummy painting in Egypt 100-300 AD. These were realistic paintings attached usually to wood panels adorning the mummies in Roman Egypt. (see replica Egyptian Roman Lady by Ben Morales-Correa below) Today you see it used in a lot of altered book art, and mixed media, as it is very conducive and useful in embedding materials used in collage. THE CHASE by Alma Lee It is always the Chase with Spot, the conquest is secondary. But then again they had it coming, first the mouse ventured out for that last forbidden morsel, and of course Tabby just could let the opportunity pass...well then the rest is history as they say. What is not shown, as it was too graphic for the housekeepers it what lies on the flip side of this picture...the mess. Some things are better left unseen!
